Giving to the Libraries

Home

A gift to the Mapúa Libraries benefits the entire Mapúa community, regardless of discipline, research interest, or geographic location. Mapúa students and faculty draw upon the expertise of library staff members, as well as millions of research articles, tens of thousands of books, thousands of items in our special collections and archives, and countless other data types and media in the course of their work. A gift to the Mapúa Libraries empowers Mapúa University.

Giving Opportunities

The Mapúa Libraries have always provided Mapúa students and faculty with the resources and instruction they need to further their research, complete theses, and stay current in a variety of fields. Our resources go beyond books and journals on the shelf. The complex nature of today’s academic library requires a multitude of information resources, electronic publications, databases, datasets, software, maps, sound and video recordings and working papers, just to name a few. Gifts to the Mapúa Libraries support the multidisciplinary, and increasingly global, learning and research needs of Mapúa students and faculty. A gift to the Libraries supports the entire Mapúa community.

The Mapúa Libraries welcome gifts that focus on unique or specialized content that aren’t readily available in other collections. Especially desirable are works on little-known topics, materials produced by members of the Mapúa community, unique items, and small collections of related materials that would enhance our academic collection. The needs of a university research library are both varied and specific. This may exclude some of the items people often wish to donate. The Mapúa Libraries may/may not accept:

  • Textbooks
  • Mass-market paperbacks
  • Books, journals, and magazines that duplicate our holdings or are readily available in other collections
  • Individual issues or small runs of scholarly journal issues
  • Popular magazines (i.e. National Geographic, Smithsonian, etc.)
  • Philippine government publications
  • Materials in poor condition or exhibiting signs of mold or mildew
  • Materials that contain highlighting, underlining, or annotations (unless annotations are of significant scholarly value)
  • Materials in outmoded formats (8-track tapes, 5.25-inch computer disks, LPs, Betamax)
  • Electronic materials requiring dated software/hardware
  • Materials that might cause the library to be liable for copyright infringement (i.e., copied audio and video recordings)

Since Mapúa was founded, gifts of materials to the Mapúa Libraries have played a very important role at Mapúa. However, for each donation we accept, there are both immediate and long-term expenses to cover processing of the items & and making the items accessible. If you are considering donating an item to the Mapúa Libraries, please contact the Acquisitions Librarian to speak about the usefulness of your proposed gift. To help evaluate proposed donations, the Libraries request that donors provide a list of materials. The Libraries are unable to retrospectively provide donors with a list of their donations. If gift materials are not accepted by the Libraries, we may suggest other options for your donation. For more information, please contact Josielyn R. Santos, Acquisitions Librarian, at (+632) 8247-5011 loc. 42100 or jrsantos@mapua.edu.ph
