The Mapua Makati Library celebrated the 78th National Book Week with a series of activities last November 21-25, 2012.
Capping the week’s celebration was a seminar on “Media and Technology”, given by Maria A. Ressa, a former CNN bureau chief and former ABS-CBN news chief. Presently, she is the CEO of Rappler and author-in-residence for the International Center for Political Violence and Terrorism Research in Nanyang Technological University. Maria A. Ressa talked about “Media and Technology”.
User training for the Gale Virtual Reference Library was conducted by Maurick Muya,Sales Executive of Cengage Learning while Science Direct and ACM electronic resources user training was presided by Angelet San Pedro, Product Specialist of LiBTech Source Philippines.
Students gamely participated in fun games such as “Name that Tune” contest and “Mapuan Feud”. We would like to congratulate the winner of the “Name that Tune” contest Ms. Castro, Nickole, accountancy 4th year student and the “Mapuan Feud: The Mapua Makati Library Game Show Winners” Ms. Lacdao, Lorybelle B., Limjoco, Marianne Melissa, Pili, Pauline Daisley G., Valderrama, Michael Angelo G.
Top borrowers from the students per program, faculty and non-teaching personnel were recognized and was awarded during the culminating activity while Roy Vincent Belarmino, Christian Lim, Alyssa Mae S. Calicdan and Jerome V. Yabut performed during the intermission number.
A total of 330 volumes of children’s books and young adult pocket books were donated by Mapua Makati students to the Donate a Book for a Cause project.
The Mapua-Makati Library partnered with nine book sellers and magazine distributors who had set-up their booths at the lobby. MIT-Library also participated in a roadshow entitled “Discover America” which features the American Shelf collection in partnership with the Thomas Jefferson Information Center, U.S. Embassy. An exhibit of the “TimeLine of National Book Week of Mapua Makati Library” was also held at the 3rd floor, West Wing Mezzanine of the Mapua Makati Campus.
This one week library celebration was spearheaded by Hazel Anne Tavora-Pestio, Branch Head Librarian with the joint effort of the library staffs namely: Kemberlyn S. Famularcano and Enrico N. Garzon (Library Assistants) Gilbert B. Garcia, Lougie D. Sorio and Apolinario Albacino (Library Clerks).
