Intramuros celebrates Chinese New Year

Last February 10, the Chinese-Filipinos ushered in the Year of the Water Snake with big festivities.

To celebrate the Chinese New Year, an exhibit was held at the Bahay Tsinoy (Chinese-Filipino House) museum in Intramuros, Manila to show the influence and role played by the Chinese in the country’s development.

The exhibit showcased three-dimensional dioramas and a vast collection of photos. It focused on how Filipinos and Chinese are linked through culture, politics, business and entertainment, among others.

In its website, the Bahay Tsinoy also featured some notable Tsinoys below:

  • José Rizal - Filipino national hero
  • Alfonso Yuchengco - a prominent industrialist
  • Francis Kong – inspirational and motivational speaker
  • Jaime Cardinal Sin - 30th Roman Catholic Archbishop of Manila
  • Ang Kiukok - National Artist for Visual Arts
  • Emilio Aguinaldo - first president of the Philippines
  • Tomas Pinpin - known as the "Prince of Filipino Printers"
  • Sergio Osmeña - third President of the Philippines
  • Corazon Cojuangco-Aquino - first woman president of the Philippines
  • Jose Mari Chan - singer and songwriter
