Fidel V. Ramos was the 12th President of the Philippines from 1992 to 1998. He was an alumnus of the United States Military Academy – earning the BS in 1950 and the University of Illinois earning the MS in Civil Engineering. He also holds a master's degree in National Security Administration from the National Defense College of the Philippines and a Master's degree in Business Administration from Ateneo de Manila University. In addition to being a military general, Ramos was instrumental in the signing of the final peace agreement between the government and the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) led by Nur Misuari in 1996. During this tenure, Ramos implemented economic reforms intended to open up the once-closed national economy, encourage private enterprise, invite more foreign and domestic investment, and reduce corruption. Ramos initiated the 4th Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders' Summit in the Philippines in November 1996. After leaving the government, he continued to consult around the world on matters of technological innovation and economic cooperation. Ramos’ collection includes publications, photographs, and materials related to his time in government, his advocacies, and his international consulting. Digitization is anticipated for the Ramos collection.
