Scope Note: Nanofibers are an exciting newclass of material used for several value added applications such as medical, filtration, barrier, wipes, personal care, composite, garments, insulation, and energy storage. special properties of nanofibers make them suitable for a wide range of applications from medical to consumer products and industrial to high-tech applications for serospace, capacitors, transistors, drug delivery systems, battery separators, energy storage, fuel cells, and information technology.

Scope Note: While there is some discussion on the exact definition of a nanofiber, the consensus in the nonwovens industry has been that anything under 1 micron in diameter is a nanofiber. To put this in perspective, one nanometer is equivalent to one billionth of a meter, making nanofibers many orders of magnitude smaller than an average human hair.
